2nd KiWi Open Source Pre-Release

Published by at 17:00 under Allgemein

Today we have been able (with a small delay) to upload the second KiWi prerelease (version 0.2) to the Kenai servers for you to download. Also, the Showcase server has been upgraded to the latest version and preloaded with some content. There have been many changes and improvements since version 0.1, which we released one month ago:

  • the implementation of the Dashboard has started; currently it features simple social network management and shows a stream of activities of all content items the user or one of his “friends” has worked on; also, the Dashboard provides a simple microblogging feature like Facebook or Twitter
  • the implementation of TagIT has been improved significantly; the new server-side clustering algorithm is now in place and the new TagIT provides almost the same features as the original one, but with much better performance and scalability
  • the Wiki and TagIT now offer a commenting feature that allows to represent the discourse on a topic using SIOC; this feature can later be extended to more sophisticated argumentation ontologies
  • the revision management system has been significantly reworked and should now work more reliably

Besides this, there have been numerous bugfixes and usability, stability, and performance improvements. As in the first release, the KiWi download comes in two versions: a source download featuring the Java source code, and a prepackaged ready-to-run binary download including JBoss and the H2 database. Both versions require Java 6 to run. If you simply want to test KiWi, I would recommend the binary download (or visit the Showcase). Source packages are for those who are interested in how the code works and how it can be extended.

And now: enjoy the second KiWi release.:-)
